Finally, harvest season has come. The 1st harvest of 2012 is 3sai. Due to the heavy drought, we couldn’t feed them for a while but luckily, all of them are in good condition. Today, I would like to introduce 3sai Showa, 65cm. Very high quality Beni is outstanding and Sumi is in process of development. I wished that the water temperature would have been lower but still I just absolutely adore this non-completion stage. This is not just one high quality koi we have. We will have more and more everyday. So please come back to be kept posted!
I went to Belgium for an opening ceremony of The Koi Farm ND the other day.
It was my first time to Europe and was also a stimulating one.
First of all, keeping was very good. Koi fish which have been sent out from our company farm last year made an outstanding performance at the European show after they had been kept perfectly.
Kuchibeni-kohaku in a movie is a Belgian champion and Hachiware-showa which is shown before Kuchibeni-kohaku won the European division Champion. These are all thanks to Niko-san from The Koi Farm ND. Also I thank everybody who came to the ceremony let alone people from Belgium and Dutch.
Tosai Harvest of this year has finished finally. A great drought had been considered but our fry pond with plenty of water is very good against the water shortage.
We had 30~40% more fry than usual years and were able to put them in the concrete pond that is for passing the winter.
The size is about 23cm~25cm, not bad. All we have to worry now is Sleeping Disease -a sickness that Koi at the bottom of a pond become upside down and swim or stay still-. If they are not taken care of well after they have it, they will end up dying~ but Koi fry of this year do not sleep. We just cannot make a mistake about them.
Hopefully, finally, eventually, harvest have been started. We start from Tosai as usual. This year, weather was very good, so I am very much satisfied with quality. Because water condition of fry mud ponds have been very stable, I believe lots of breeder have good result. This year, quality and conditions of Tosai production was very stable than other years. Following movie is Tosai for sale on autumn and those are not Tategoi but I am confidence for those high quality Tosai. At the end of Sep, Tosai Tategoi will be harvested. Breeding season has been ending soon.
Yesterday, it was huge rain like a squall. It may be difficult to see on movie but I happened to find very rare scene. The rainbow appeared just in front of my car!!! I have never seen rainbow in front of me, so I grab camera and filmed. I hope this is good sign. Please wish my luck . . .
I would like to show how we are doing good at breeding Tosai this year. Because we have had very hot summer, lack of water is serious and big problem but our fry ponds which have adequate water are doing very well. We dig well by ourselves and secure water, so weather like this season makes Tosai production very well. On the other hand, the weather like last year which rained very heavily for long time gives us lots of trouble. This is very tough part of breeding koi because it is living thing and we can not do much thing for natural disaster. I would like to be careful even we are doing good so far and make it successful at the end. BUT. . . very hot . . . .
I’m sorry I haven’t updated blog for three month. I will try to update constantly.
Today, I filmed the 2sai in mud pond. Because of no water due to hot weather, the water level of mud pond become lower and color of water became strong blue. Because water tempreture of surface become very high, koi swim deeper level of mud pond and I haven’t been able to seen those 2sai much. However, today, hopefully they appears when I visit mud pond so I quietly filmed them. From further seen, it looks growing into roughly 50cm and body confirmation have been developed. We still have one month until harvest, so I will feed them well and make them more beautiful.
From today, we start spawning. We will take artificial spawning method which makes ratio of hatching higher. At first day, we use “Tepodon” which is one of our main bloodline. Because this koi takes long time to spawn eggs, I put it in first day. Next is “Tora-ichi”. We used this koi last year and found it very successful. I hope it will be our main bloodline in the future. And the name of new koi which come out as parent koi is called “CT” from Omosako bloodline. I wish it will breed wonderful Nishikigoi which is more than “GT”. The next generations from male parent koi, “Higuma” which is over 85cm are also coming out. We will of course use new male parent koi, “Big Town”, which we purchased at “Kanto Meiri Ten”. From today, we won’t be able to sleep in the night . . .
Today, I would like to introduce 3sai Showa, 60cm. In movie, I introduced this koi as 59cm but it is 60cm actually. You can not believe it but this koi has not been fed since it was harvested on October 2011. She hasn’t eaten any single koi food but still have this body confirmation. What a stout body!. The parent of this koi is called “Kuro”. The koi which was born from Kuro tend to have wide and tall body compare to the others. When you actually see this koi, you will feel it is more than 60cm. The koi which has good body confirmation tend not to have good beni and sumi but it has high quality one and sumi is well located in the body. Never get tired of looking at this koi.
Today, I would like to introduce two 2sai, 48cn and 51cm, in fact, those are male. Lots of people misunderstand this koi as female because it has high body and soft beni like female. In addition, good pattern . . . The good point of next 51cm koi is shiroji. Absolutely “snow white”. It doesn’t have much sumi but good beni covers those minus point. Shiroji, luster, beni, body with room to grow more bigger. Both of them has quality like a female. people think that male can not be grown but it’s wrong. Good male grow as same as female.
