Remarkable Tosai

<Comment>

We keep doing third culling as same as yesterday.
The female parent of these fry is “Tepodon” which is our one of main.
The first pairing is doing well but “Tepodon” is stable and more nice!

Oh, yeah !

Today, we culled third culling of Showa.
The heat made us feel out of it but the voice of Mitsunori ,”Ooh!” brought us good news.
This is new parent but it seems that breeding is well done so far!!
Please take a look these two pieces which were picked by Mitsunori with “Ooh!”.

“Shirayuki” Kohaku of Ake 2sai are released into mud pond.

<Comment in movie>

I would like to introduce Ake 2sai(It was Tosai last year) of Kagura bloodline. Name of parent fish is “Shirayuki”. Because these Kohaku has strong body structure, they eat more than the others. Therefore, I can not put these fishes into same pond. It goes very well thought . . . . I can not wait to see how it grows when we harvest. Second video below first one is the film which was introduced on our blog on Sep. Please take a look.

Ake 2sai are released into mud pond.

I’m sorry I haven’t updated blog for long time. Today, I would like to report releasing 2sai(Tosai last year) into mud pond. The size of koi is around 30 to 40cm. We could release these because water tempreture is getting stabled. The bloodline of Gosanke you can find from this movies are, Cats for Sanke, Chokan Sho for Showa, Boshu for Kohaku. I like these three parents because they have strong and stout body structure. These three bloodlines can be well expected in the future. I can’t wait to harvest them !!

New trial, auto feeder for fry

<Comment in movie>

Today, I’m visiting fry ponds in Muikaichi. As you can see, these ponds are covered with the nets to protect the baby koi from predators. And as a first attempt from this year, I put in an automatic feeder beside fry ponds. Baby koi are gathering around the feeder at the moment. My impression through experimenting with the feeder this year is that whole baby koi are growing into an equally bigger size. In addition, I think feeding by feeder helps saving koi food rather than feeding by hand.
I change the amount of food by checking at the condition of the ponds and water temperature daily. The baby koi averages 16.7cm in size now. Whole baby koi is getting good size. I think it is the sign for a proper amount of food for the baby koi that they prowl around the feeder anytime like this. Tosai harvest is finally starting in three days. I’m looking forward to seeing the tosai at this year’s harvest.

No rain . . .

Today, I’m visiting Nishikigoi ponds at the mountain area. It’s getting slightly evaporated its water in the ponds with hot climate, and the wide edges of the ponds are exposed. I think the ponds decreased about its water level from 40cm to 50cm. I can even see the pump embedded its bottom. I consider that the current condition might have bad effect on feeding Nishikigoi. In that case, we need to develop the depth of the pond water. Thus, we pump water from one to another by electric generator. We are trying hard to solve the problems we are facing now.
In Addition, the heat stops Nishikigoi to come close to the pond surface in daytime because the water temperature around the surface hits 34 Celsius degree. However, it’s fortunate that they eat up all food that I feed daytime at night when it’s getting cooler. But still, this is serious problem that we have now.

Special Koi Food Sannichikai Special, last day

<Comment in movie>

The fertilizer has been sat for 3 days. It looks like this now. As we reported previously, it contains rice bran, poultry manure, water, and the special bacterial liquid.
It’s moisture and like this firmness, which a lump breaks when a hand holds it.
We usually make the amount of approximately 700kg to 750kg at a time. Now, Hirasawa (Hidemasa) and Hara are helping to pack the fertilizer in paper bags.
Mitsunori: He professions the packing process.
Hidemasa: Oh, yeah! If there is such a game in the Olympic program, I can be…fourth place.
Everyone: hahaha
Mitsunori: But, you work slower than usual.
Hidemasa: It’s all Hara’s fault. He’s feeling bad today.
Everyone: hahaha
Well, like this, we pack the fertilizer in bags and load them on a truck. The all fertilizer bags are going to fit on the entire back of the truck.
Mitsunor: Good luck, guys.
Hidemasa: Ok, thanks.
Mitsunori: Oops, it fell down.

Special Koi Food, Sannichikai Special, 2nd day

<Comment in movie>

Hi, today we report day 2 of making the original fertilizer. We add more rice bran and poultry manure at this stage.
He makes a bag of rice bran look lighter, but actually it is heavy.
Hidemasa: Yes, it is.
Mitsunori: Like this, add rice bran to the fertilizer sat overnight. Then, here it comes the poultry manure. He didn’t even drop a single piece.
Hidemasa: Of course, I never drop it.
Mitsunori: Add several baskets of poultry manure. This is the poultry manure.
We fortunately get baby chiken’s feces this time. It’s good quality poultry manure. We will run the machine all day today, and it’s going to finish tomorrow.
